Spring Surprises

Something I love in the Spring is the surprise of those flowers and plants that return unplanned.  Like these poppies that are blooming now.  I didn’t plant them this year, they just showed up.

I covered some of my garden boxes with black plastic last fall to keep the weeds down.  This one had several potato plants growing underneath!

Last year I planted a very small shaded garden.  It took a beating over the winter so that by early March there was no expectation that anything would come back, but in just the last couple of weeks these three showed up!

It’s exciting and reassuring in a way.  It makes me feel hopeful.  I think that’s why I love gardening.
